Yellow, Red or Blue Cleats?
RED cleats are for the experienced rider. A rider that has a good amount of time in the saddle so that their shoe & cleat fit is optimized. This cleat offers the least amount of float which optimizes pedaling efficiency. As the shoe is locked into the pedal no energy is wasted to re-centre your foot after each pedal stroke.
YELLOW cleats are for most riders and are the most sold. Due to the high degree of float and lateral movement, these cleats are the least efficient of the 3 models. The trade off is that this cleat requires the least tuning to get get into a good position..perfect for DIY!
BLUE cleats are for experienced riders requiring less stress on their knees.
This is a performance cleat with a 1o of floating angle (play). But in order to keep the shoe from moving laterally, Shimano changed the pivot location from the centre of the cleat (i.e. YELLOW cleat) to the top of the cleat. This small change eliminated all lateral play resulting The outcome in a very secure and efficient cleat that offers a minimum amount of movement.
